  2. Line is arguably the most basic and
  3. immediate element of art. It is used
  4. to define the contours of shapes and
  5. to record the relationships between
  6. forms. In addition to being purely
  7. descriptive, lines can also 
  8. communicate complex qualities such
  9. as movement, texture, tension,
  10. weight, and energy. Therefore, it is
  11. important not only to determine where 
  12. a line is drawn, but also to consider how to draw it. The exercises that follow investigate these expressive aspects of line. As you explore the interface, look to the bottom of the screen for key observations and interesting facts.
